MAY 3

Welcome to the month of May! Wasn't there a song about this month? I seem to have forgotten it. Oh well. There are lots of songs that neither I nor you have forgotten about on this week's SubModern charts, starting with PJ Harvey at the top, debuting the first single "A Child's Question, August" from her upcoming tenth album I Inside The Old Year Dying. Good to have you back Polly Jean. Then on the album chart, The National's newly released ninth album First Two Pages of Frankenstein lands at #1 upon its release, but with no specific tracks standing out on the singles chart.

The singles chart continues with a tie at #2 between Palehound's new banger of a tune, "The Clutch," and a Thundercat and Tame Impala team-up, "No More Lies." Bloc Party's "High Life" slips a bit to #4, followed by another tie at #5 between "All I See" by Girl On Girl and "Know Better" by Sir Chloe. Three tracks are tied at #7. They are "Minor Setback" from Gum & Ambrose Kenny-Smith, "Supernatural Thing" from M. Ward, and "Scabs" from Speedy Ortiz. That leaves a huge tie to close the top ten at #10 with singles from Bar Italia, Go-Jo, The Linda Lindas, Protomartyr, Squid, and Tanlines. Check out the chart for all the titles.

Back on the albums chart, Beach House's Record Store Day release, the Become EP, makes its top ten debut at #2. A four-way tie occupies the #3 spot(s), including the aforementioned Bar Italia (with Tracey Denim) and Tanlines (with The Big Mess), as well as Beach Fossils (with Bunny) and Bully (with Lucky For You). Last week's double #1 artist, Arlo Parks makes her only top ten appearance this week at #7 with My Soft Machine. As on the singles chart, we close the top ten albums with a six-way tie, here at #8, featuring releases from All Fires, The Damned, DMA'S, Kevin Morby, Skating Polly, and Water From Your Eyes.
